Security operations center(SOC)
A security operations center, or SOC, is the facility and team from which an organization monitors its sites, cameras, alarms and access systems and coordinates the response to incidents. In physical security it is the in-house equivalent of a monitoring center; in IT the same term names the team that watches networks.
A physical security SOC brings the feeds together: the video wall, the alarm panels, the access control events and the phone lines. Its value is a single place where an event is seen, verified and acted on, with a record of who did what.
The scale of what a SOC can watch is set by how much of the watching is automated. Detections turn cameras into events, scheduled camera rounds turn routine checks into reports, and operators handle what is raised rather than staring at every feed.
Camzify's pages use the plainer term monitoring center for the same room when it belongs to a service provider. A company running its own SOC uses the same console: every site on one login, permission groups per operator, and a report per round.
