Central monitoring station
A central monitoring station, also called a central station or alarm receiving center, is a staffed facility that receives alarm signals from many protected sites and dispatches the appropriate response. It is the traditional back end of a monitored alarm, and increasingly it verifies alarms with video before dispatching.
The station's job is triage: an alarm arrives, an operator checks it, and a call, a keyholder or the police follows. False alarms are the cost, since every one consumes an operator and often a dispatch, which is why verification matters.
Video verification puts the camera view beside the alarm so the operator sees what tripped it. Detections on the same cameras give the station events between alarms, and scheduled camera rounds give it a way to sell coverage of sites that are not on an alarm at all.
