RTSP
RTSP, the Real Time Streaming Protocol, is the standard most IP cameras use to publish their live video stream to a recorder or software that requests it. A camera with an RTSP address can be viewed and recorded by any system that can reach that address on the network.
An RTSP address looks like a web address with a different prefix and usually carries the camera's login. The camera's own interface shows it, along with the stream profiles it offers: a main stream at full resolution and a sub stream at lower resolution for bandwidth.
For a cloud service the question is reach. A camera whose RTSP stream is published to the internet can be connected directly; one on a private network needs a relay, which on Camzify is the Connector, a small application inside the network that carries the stream out without opening ports.
Camzify also accepts RTMP from encoders and HTTPS streams (HLS and WebRTC), but RTSP is the route most existing cameras use.
