Remote video monitoring(RVM)
Remote video monitoring, or RVM, is the practice of watching a site's cameras from a location other than the site, usually a monitoring center, and acting on what they show. It replaces or supplements a guard on the premises with an operator, and increasingly with software, watching the same cameras from afar.
The service has two halves. The first is the watching: an operator or an AI system looking at the cameras, continuously or on a schedule, and noticing what matters. The second is the response: a call to the site, a message to a guard, a dispatch, or a call to the police.
Monitoring centers run it as a service for many client sites, and the economics depend on how much of the watching can be automated. Detections raise events for an operator to verify; a scheduled camera round checks conditions at each camera and files a report without anyone watching a wall of screens.
