Video retention
Video retention is the period for which recorded footage is kept before it is automatically deleted, set by the rules that apply to the site, the sector and the insurer, and by the storage available. On a cloud VMS it is a setting per camera, in days or as a storage cap, rather than a property of a recorder's disks.
The obligation across the major privacy regimes has a common shape: a stated purpose for recording, retention no longer than that purpose needs, a defined period that the system actually enforces, and rights for the people recorded. The number itself varies by sector and contract.
A recorder enforces one period for every camera on it, set by its disks. A cloud VMS sets the period per camera, so a gate camera can keep ninety days while a corridor keeps seven, and a whole site can be set at once.
On Camzify retention is set per camera in days or as a storage cap, drawn from a storage pool sold per terabyte per month. Footage past its window is deleted; an incident is exported within the window.
