Cloud video surveillance

Cloud video surveillance is the model in which a site's cameras stream to a service in the cloud that records, stores and manages the video instead of a recorder on site. The cameras stay where they are; recording, retention, live viewing and user access move to the service.

The phrase describes the whole arrangement rather than one product: the cameras, the connection that carries them, and the cloud service on the other end. It is what a buyer means by cloud CCTV or a cloud NVR, and what a vendor means by VSaaS or a cloud VMS.

Its advantages are the ones a recorder cannot offer: retention set per camera rather than per box, one login for every site, footage that survives a stolen or failed recorder, and on Camzify the AI detections and scheduled patrol rounds that run on the same streams.

Its limits are bandwidth and policy. Every camera streamed needs upstream capacity at the site, and some organizations require footage to stay inside the building. A hybrid arrangement, with the recorder kept and the cloud added for the cameras that matter, covers both.

On Camzify streams are encrypted in transit over TLS 1.2 or higher and footage is encrypted at rest with AES-256, access follows permission groups, and every action is in an audit trail. Compliance certifications are in progress and none is claimed as held.

The sum of the stream bitrates of the cameras you send to the cloud, which you read from the cameras' own settings and compare with the site's measured upload speed. No per-camera figure is published, because it depends on resolution, frame rate and codec.
