BS 7858
BS 7858 is the British Standard for the security screening of individuals working in a security environment, covering identity verification, employment history and other background checks. It is the standard UK guarding and monitoring companies commonly point to when describing how their staff are vetted.
The checks a BS 7858 screening covers typically include verifying identity, confirming a period of employment or activity history, and checking for unspent criminal convictions, carried out before someone starts in a role covered by the standard.
For a buyer, a guarding or monitoring company stating its staff are BS 7858 screened is a baseline trust signal about who has access to a site or its cameras, separate from any licence the individual might also hold.
